💼💼 Joining a central government department through UPSC, SSC and other examinations is a significant milestone. This article explains the salary structure, major allowances and the minimum salary concept used on SarkariBabu.
Original SarkariBabu salary imageSalary Table
The original article includes this salary table. It is retained below as a reference, while the Digital Pay Matrix provides the interactive calculator.
1️⃣ Basic Pay
The foundation of the salary structure is the basic pay, which varies depending on the position and Pay Matrix Level. It sets the stage for calculating other allowances and benefits.
2️⃣ Dearness Allowance (DA)
DA is a percentage of Basic Pay and is revised periodically. The original article stated the rate applicable from 01.01.2024; because DA changes over time, the calculator uses an editable DA rate rather than treating the old article's rate as current.
3️⃣ House Rent Allowance (HRA)
HRA depends on the classification of the employee's posting location. The original article gives X, Y and Z city rates as 30%, 20% and 10% respectively. The current applicable rate should always be checked against the latest Government order.
4️⃣ Transport Allowance (TA) — city-wise
The original salary image contains the important TA logic. TA is not simply determined by X/Y/Z HRA category. It uses a separate city classification: Higher TPTA / Specific Cities versus Other Places.
The Department of Expenditure's 7th CPC implementation order confirms these two TA categories and rates.
Higher TPTA cities include: Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Greater Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Surat, Nagpur, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, Kochi, Kozhikode, Indore, Coimbatore and Ghaziabad. The 7th CPC report describes these as the 19 Higher TPTA cities.
5️⃣ Other Allowances and Benefits
Employees may also be eligible for Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, medical-related benefits and other admissible benefits depending on their circumstances and applicable Government policies.
Additional benefits can include NPS contribution, leave-related benefits and other social-security provisions.
